Summit City United Women Fall in Overtime Thriller Against Chicago Mustangs, 7-6

Fort Wayne, IN – In a hard-fought battle between two undefeated teams, Summit City United Women came up just short in a 7-6 overtime loss to the Chicago Mustangs in front of an electric home crowd. Despite a valiant effort and a second-half rally to take the lead, Summit City was unable to hold on in the final moments, suffering their first defeat of the season.

"Finally coming back home, putting on a show for the crowd, going against another undefeated team who is on top of the division—it was a hard-fought game. Super proud of how the girls played. We started off down, rallied, and took the lead. We just happened to take our foot off the gas at the end and unfortunately didn’t get the outcome we wanted. But this just shows us we’re ready to battle, we can battle, and we need to play from start to finish. I’m super proud of these girls, super proud of this roster. Grateful for the crowd, love the ownership, and I’m super excited to see what’s next," said Head Coach Mike Rayburn.

The game was an intense back-and-forth affair, with Summit City showing resilience after falling behind early. A strong offensive surge saw them take control in the second half, but the Mustangs managed to capitalize on late opportunities, forcing overtime and ultimately securing the win.

With the season reaching a crucial stage, Summit City now turns its focus to their upcoming home match against Kalamazoo, a must-win game that will guarantee their spot in the championship game. With everything on the line, the team is ready to regroup and fight for a chance at the title.
